Backgammon Strategies
In the game of backgammon it is important to know backgammon strategies, as you get more familiar to the game. There are three basic strategies that you need in this game and if you learn them you will be able to take on any opponent if you know when to apply these strategies when they are needed. You must also know that you have to be ready from game to game to know when to implement each one.
The first strategy is called the Blockade, which involves building six thick walls of stones, or at least as thick as you can manage to block in your opponents tones that are on your one point. This is a popular move at the beginning of a game. You can build the wall anywhere between your 11-point and 2-point and then shuffle it to your home board as the game progresses.
The next strategy of backgammon is called the Blitz, which involves you closing your home board as quickly as you can while keeping your opponent occupied on the bar. A good example of this is if your opponent rolls an early two and moves one of his checkers from your one point into your three points and you roll a five and five, you can play 6/1, 6/1,8/3, 8/3. Your opponent is now in a bit of trouble because he has two checkers on the bar and you have closed half your inner board.
The last strategy is called the Back game and this is where you have two or more anchors in your opponent's home board. Keep in mind that an anchor is a point occupied by at least 2 of your stones. This move should be used when you are significantly behind in the game. This move will improve your chances greatly.
